My name is Kannan and I am 19. My passion for media started when I took Digital Media studies at Secondary 3. I gradually manifested the basic foundation for film studies and decided to further develop my skills . I joined the course Diploma in Moving Images at Temasek Polytechnic on April 2009. My journey into the design world started from that day onwards. I managed to know more about the industry and decided to explore further by self- directed learning.in this two years, I have managed to gain lots of experiences by directing and writing for some films.

This is a short teaser for our mock up film , “Seductive Love”. This exercise is based on our Production Design module where we built a set of a eerie cemetery. We shot this promo on the set we built.

VIDEOS: Dark Waters (2010)

This is my first time experience in filming a documentary in overseas. 8 of us were chosen to travel to do a documentary on the living conditions of the people of Belawan slums in Medan, Indonesia. Through the years, densely populated slum communities have littered the globe. The living
conditions are undoubtedly harsh, yet currently 1 billion of the world’s 6 billion people are living in slums. Dark Waters explores the life in the slums through a slum in Indonesia.

To make a ‘different’ documentary, i tried using fast screenplay and stylistic visual storytelling to smack the message across in a very convincing way to the viewers. This journey into the dark waters of slum communities not only made me aware about slums but also gave the maturity to communicate efficiently and direct the feelings out of these people. It was critically acclaimed and represented my school in participating in the SIFF 2011.

Campus Delights is a short food show which was made for my scriptwriting essentials class. We were suppose to shoot a food show around our school campus in one day. I was the scriptwriter and director for this light hearted show. The concept of the show is about showcasing the famous food stalls in school campus in Singapore.

VIDEOS: Jerk Off (2010)

A short film my friends and I made for the 48th Hour Film Project. I was the writer, producer, soundman and gaffer for this film. The topic my crew of four was give was, “Film De Femme” which meant that our movie must have a strong female character. The story was about a young lady playing tricks on her boyfriend by lying that she is pregnant after realizing that he is neglecting her to hang out with other girls. This is my first attempt to write a fully fledged comedy. I decided to use young relationships as a theme as that’s the time where couples have conflicts the most. My simple message was that a girl must stand out and voice out when she is not being treated well by her partner. The witty one liners and the character of “Eugene Ling‟ was well received by the audiences in the cinemas. The whole theatre hall was filled with laughter at the climax.

VIDEOS: Colour Your Life With Design (2010)

A corporate video on Temasek Design School I wrote and directed for my Video Project assignment on year 1. The main objective of the video was to promote Temasek Design School and show the uniqueness of each course. The main concept of mine is to use the tools and stationeries each course to show the uniqueness. Even though it is a corporate video, I wanted a simple storyline to make it entertaining. The story is about how an O’level graduate spots a TDS advertisement and he goes to the place to find himself stuck in a lift which brings him to 8 rooms which has two students working on their tools busily. The fast paced screenplay and stylish cinematography was acclaimed by my lecturers. The movie was shot with DSLR camera as I felt that the depth of field will be stronger compared to a camcorder.
